The purpose of OJSC is to provide an opportunity for children in Oakura and the surrounding Coastal area to play sport for an Oakura based club, whether they attend Oakura School or any other primary, intermediate or secondary school.
OJSC is closely aligned to Oakura School however it is a stand-alone not-for-profit Club that operates independently.
OJSC offers sporting opportunities where no other sporting club offers the same sport in the local district, eg OJSC does not offer rugby as Kaitake Rugby Club manages rugby in the district, the same applies to tennis, athletics, bowls, surfing and others.

A committee of volunteers manage OJSC. The committee usually meet once per term.
The Sports Coordinators are responsible for organising their respective sport – submitting notifications of when registrations are open, organising teams in a fair and practical way, collecting fees and spending the fees prudently, assigning coaches and generally ensuring that the players are happy and are enjoying their sporting adventures.
All the players in the teams are considered Junior Members of OJSC.
The parents/caregivers listed on the registration form of the Junior members are considered Senior Members of OJSC.
The current sports offered within OJSC are:
The sports on offer are dependent upon demand/need and a suitable person who can manage and coach. For more information about each sport, contact the sports coordinators.
Step 1: Check the OJSC facebook page and find out if there is a sport you are interested in and check when registrations open for that sport – OJSC contacts are listed on the School App too.
Step 2: Follow the instructions on facebook for registration and payment for each sport.
Step 3: Check your emails/facebook for teams (note that all children that want to play that sport will be put in a team if there is a team suitable.
Step 4: Stay in touch with your coach and enjoy your sport.
If you have a question, contact the relevant sport coordinator (contact details on facebook and on the school app). The committee is often looking for new sports coordinators so if you are keen to be involved, please make contact with someone on the committee. We would love to hear from you.
A fee is charged for each sport a child plays. These fees are set so that they cover the affiliation fees to the Taranaki association (where relevant), sporting equipment & uniforms. Fees are kept to a minimum.
Fees are paid online – check facebook for links. If you need help logging on to any of the systems, check the instructions on facebook or contact someone from the committee.
If larger projects need funding, eg new cricket nets or football goals, then these are funded through Grants and fundraising.
